T.V. and Film Recommendations -What I’ve been watching

What I watch for entertainment is kinda all over the place as far as genre, tone and theme. I watch a lot of movies and t.v. series so let’s do a top five and an honorable mention for each so twelve total recommendations of what to watch. *Also all of these should be available on Amazon Prime Video.

In no particular order let’s start with t.v. shows or limited series:

The Devil’s Hour (2022)

A gripping six-part psychological thriller. Lucy wakes every night at exactly 3:33am. Nothing in her life has made sense for a long time. But the answers are out there, somewhere, at the end of a trail of brutal murders.

Reacher (2022)

When retired Military Police Officer Jack Reacher is arrested for a murder he did not commit, he finds himself in the middle of a deadly conspiracy full of dirty cops, shady businessmen and scheming politicians. With nothing but his wits, he must figure out what is happening in Margrave, Georgia. The first season of Reacher is based on the international bestseller, The Killing Floor by Lee Child.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017)

In 1958 New York, Midge Maisel’s life is on track– husband, kids, and elegant Yom Kippur dinners in their Upper West Side apartment. But when her life takes a surprise turn, she has to quickly decide what else she’s good at – and going from housewife to stand-up comic is a wild choice to everyone but her. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is written and directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino (Gilmore Girls).

Fleabag (2016)

Fleabag is a hilarious and poignant window into the mind of a dry-witted, sexual, angry, grief-riddled woman, as she hurls herself at modern living in London. Award-winning playwright Phoebe Waller-Bridge writes and stars as Fleabag, an unfiltered woman trying to heal, while rejecting anyone who tries to help her and keeping up her bravado all along.

Endeavour (2012)

Before Inspector Morse, there was the rookie Constable Morse, fed up with police work and ready to nip his career in the bud by handing in his resignation.

Honorable Mention:

Whitechapel (2009)

The streets of Whitechapel are awash with blood. A murderer stalks the night, picking off vulnerable women and leaving them brutally butchered. The locals live in fear and the police remain clueless, with no motive, no evidence and no hope of catching this barbaric killer. But this is not the 19th Century and the time of Jack the Ripper. This is now.

Films:

Used People (1993)

At her husband’s funeral, Pearl (Shirley MacLaine), Jewish mother of two divorced and antagonistic daughters, meets an old Italian friend (Marcello Mastroianni) of her husband, whose advice years previously had stopped the husband leaving home.

The Portable Door (2023)

Interns Paul and Sophie discover that their employers at a mysterious London firm are attempting to disrupt the world of magic with their unconventional business practices.

The Vast of Night (2020)

In the twilight of the 1950s, on one fateful night in New Mexico, a young switchboard operator Fay (Sierra McCormick) and charismatic radio DJ Everett (Jake Horowitz) discover a strange audio frequency that could change their small town and the future forever.

Wrath of Man (2021)

A mysterious new cash truck security guard surprises his coworkers during a heist in which he unexpectedly unleashes precision skills. The crew is left wondering who he is and where he came from. Soon, the marksman’s ultimate motive becomes clear.

Felony (2014)

Three detectives become embroiled in a tense struggle after a tragic accident leaves a child in critical condition.

Honorable Mention:

All of the Jesse Stone Movies (in order)

Jesse Stone: Death In Paradise (2006)

Jesse Stone: Sea Change (2007)

Jesse Stone: No Remorse (2010)

Jesse Stone: Innocence Lost (2011)

Jesse Stone: Benefit of the Doubt (2012)

Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise (2015)

There we go I feel that this recommendation list hits a few comic, horror, sci-fi and crime feels.

Bonus Round Unhinged (in my opinion) Things I have watched lately:

21 Jump Street (1987)

Fresh-faced undercover cops head back to high school on the hunt for criminals in this riveting crime drama starring screen icon Johnny Depp.

Good Omens (2019)

The End of the World is coming, which means a fussy Angel and a loose-living Demon who’ve become overly fond of life on Earth are forced to form an unlikely alliance to stop Armageddon. But they have lost the Antichrist, an 11-year-old boy unaware he’s meant to bring upon the end of days, forcing them to embark on an adventure to find him and save the world before it’s too late.

Imperium (2016)

An FBI agent goes undercover to infiltrate a white supremacist group plotting to build a dirty bomb in this tense thriller.

Wind River (2017)

A chilling murder mystery set in the icy backwoods of a Native American Reservation, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Jeremy Renner.

I also enjoyed watching “Mrs. Maisel” and “Fleabag” — they were very different series, but both well done. And “The Vast of Night” was a neat movie!
